The abundant life that He desires for us thankfully includes an awareness of His presence, and the opportunity to communicate with Him freely. But in our walk with Christ, we sometimes experience interruptions in that precious sense of unbroken fellowship with Him. He seems far away and we have trouble hearing His voice clearly. We are unsure what we can do to restore that communion.
The acrostic of this poem spells out some of the basic points of this book that we can ponder prayerfully in evaluating our communication and communion with God.
H Have I been HONEST with you, Lord, bringing my heart’s truth?
O Am I OBEDIENT to what you tell me to do?
P Am I PERSUADED you’re always near?
E Am I always EXPECTING from you to hear?
T Am I TRUSTING in your faithfulness too?
O Do I OFFER all I can, thanking you again and again?
H Do I HUNGER for your presence and thirst for your Word?
E Do I have EMPATHY for others? Do I ENJOY your Spirit in them? Am I ENCOURAGING to others whenever I can?
A Could I ABANDON myself more fully? Am I surrendered to you?
R Do I rest in your SOVEREIGNTY too?
S Would I SEEK you in the midst of a storm?
O Or am I OBSTINATE and so stubborn?
O Am I OVERCONFIDENT to a fault?
N NEEDING you, because I don’t want to be without?
